This digital collection is a working archive of projects, events and curated spaces that Las Maestras Center has put together since our conception in 2017-18. Although only officially established at UCSB a few short years ago, this digital archive is testimony to and spans the work done before our official opening and the work we have yet to do. It is a living space in time where we welcome all to engage with the bodies of art, words and politica.
Our Xicana[x] Indigenous framework, aesthetic and creative thought is present in every artist, educator, activist, exhibition, demonstration and ceremony we have welcomed and collaborated with in this living space. Our politica is found in the act of retuning home to oneself and speaking from our own Xicana[x] Indigenous experience. This breathing archive documents our personal and political histories so that the voices we bring on to our platform are free to speak from individual experience and the collective thought of their communities. As you explore the work below, please reach out to us if you feel that we can begin to work together.
