Home, Finals, and Pandemics

Coming home felt weird. At first everything happened so fast I didn’t really have time to react to the situation. The virus was “after older people”, so I had to make runs for my family. Tia needed huevos, my Nina needed Emergen-C, mom and dad needed rice, beans, bananas, water, etc... so we were on the hunt. My friend and I found nothing, everything was empty. It was sad the amount of stores we went to, and sardonic what we came out with, Mochi, Herdez Salsa, and a Paleta Payaso. We had to leave at five in the morning the next day to find water.

After a couple of days of hunting and gathering, things started to settle in my head. I was jobless and had finals. I was mad that everything was happening like this. I was worried about my parents who were deemed essential workers. It was frustrating, and things felt uncertain. Stores being bought out made me think my community was going to go to war for supplies, but after a long and tense week everything started to slowly settle down. My community was social distancing. There were hardly any cars anywhere, people were going on walks, riding bikes, reading outside, and slowly the grocery stores were beginning to have water and toilet paper. My mini mental implosion started to go down. I started taking walks with my dad when he got off of work, cleaned the house for my mom, and moved my room around more than once. I know this isn’t going to end soon because the tension is still there, we’re all scared, pero como dice mi mama, todo con calma y fe.
